No TOEFL / IELTS on many Russian-taught pathways
For eligible Russian-medium programmes, applicants may use the university’s Russian-language route and preparatory study instead of an English test. Exact programme rules still apply.

Why Russia
Russian state universities have trained international students for more than seventy years. Diplomas from accredited Russian universities can be recognised in many countries, but recognition depends on the destination country, profession and applicable rules. Applicants should treat recognition as a programme-specific question and check the requirements that apply to their future profession.

International applicants
Requirements depend on the programme, but many Russian-taught pathways do not use TOEFL or IELTS as a universal entry document. English-taught programmes can set their own language rules, so we present the distinction clearly rather than making a blanket promise.

We help applicants organise the application, document preparation, invitation and visa workflow. Support is designed to reduce avoidable errors; final admission and visa decisions remain with the competent authorities.
Students from Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and beyond can use the same application pathway. The form now accepts a broad range of nationalities rather than focusing on one country.
Education at every level
A one-year foundation programme in Russian language and core subjects, required before most degrees begin.
Four years of undergraduate study, the standard entry point after secondary school.
A five- to six-year integrated degree common in medicine, engineering and law.
Two further years of focused study and research after a Bachelor's degree.
Postgraduate clinical training for medical graduates entering a specialty.
Postgraduate research training toward an academic and scientific career.
Build your Russian before the main degree begins.
Preparatory CoursesStudent life
Every student on the government quota is guaranteed a place in a university dormitory for a modest monthly fee.
Since a 2020 change in the law, full-time international students at accredited universities can work part-time once they hold a separate work permit.
Most programmes begin with a preparatory year focused on Russian, so you can arrive with limited Russian and still be ready for your first year.
Active student associations exist in most major university cities, alongside clubs spanning sport, music, science and the arts.
International students are required to hold medical insurance, and most campuses operate their own student clinics for routine care.
Outside Moscow and Saint Petersburg, monthly living costs are markedly lower — one reason so many applicants shortlist regional universities.
We don't publish student testimonials on this page. If you'd like to hear directly from current international students before you apply, ask us on WhatsApp and we'll connect you.
